Haring's characteristic dynamic lines breathe contemporary vitality into the narrative of Christ's life, juxtaposed against the backdrop of the cathedral's Gothic and Renaissance art collection. The intentional ambiguity of Haring’s depiction of Christ allowed for my own interpretation of Christ’s life, and in turn left me feeling more connected to Christ and his gospel more than any other artwork in that cathedral. Drawing inspiration from Henri Matisse's paper cutout technique, I embarked on a creative endeavor that marries Haring's modern artistic sensibility with Matisse's minimalism.
